    Default Browser compatibility.

    Browser compatibility.

Before you upload your website for the first time, you should test it for browser compatibility, otherwise the website can look completely wrong.
    --------------------------------------------

    the main browsers are:

    Microsoft Internet Explorer 4
    Microsoft Internet Explorer 5-6
    Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
    Opera
    Firefox
    Mozilla Firefox 2
    Netscape
Safarri (for mac and mac OS)
    Macromedia Contrabute
    Mosaic*
    Konqueror* (for linux)

    * = Not so popular any more

    --------------------------------------------
Next you have to test the sites on different platforms (a bit less important!)
this part should only be used for corporate websites.

    Popular platforms:

Mac, Mac OS, Microsoft DOS*, Windows 95*, 98, 2000/ME, XP, Vista, UNIX*, LINUX*

    * = Not so popular any more

    --------------------------------------------

To make your site accessible you should test them in each browser and platform, and if there is any errors use a JavaScript or use an if !ie statement to redirect to a compatible version.

But what happened if you can’t test them in all these browsers?

    GET OTHERS TO TEST!

    What to do:
    1. take a screenshot of what the webpage should look like
    2. Post it in this thread
    3. We will use the browsers we have to check, tell you what browsers worked and include screenshots of what didn’t.
    4. I can give you a java script to fix the problem
Browsers I have: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, Opera, Mozilla Firefox 2, Macromedia contribute.

    --------------------------------

It is also good to use <noscript> to show content where JavaScript goes so users without js compatible or switched off will be able to see some content.

Also there are loads of different versions of HTML, PHP...
which is why you need to test it in browsers, one browser may support the code but another doesn’t, take a look at blueyonder.co.uk on internet 6, and then internet 7- Its all messed up on 7 and that is because they didn’t test it, and that problem can cost £100's to fix!!

You could do that but that just tests the versions of HTML, e.g. HTML 4.0

each browser supports its own number of codes within the version of HTML

so they work, but not that good

Lets say (for an example) that Internet explorer 4 supported HTML 4.0 & javascript 1.2 and OPERA supported HTML 4.0 & javascript 1.2, even if you view the same webpage with different browsers they will prob look different, especially with javascript
