Well, Firstly... I had lessons. And try search on google for 'Guitar Notes/Chords'
Those will shoe you where to put your fingers etc.
    Good Luck

First of all get yourself a teacher. You may think your pretty good but your timing could be off or you might be mucking up somewhere. Plus a teacher is a teacher for a reason and he will be good at guitaring and he will teach you everything and teach you properly. I don't think you need a new guitar just yet if your only just learning and to be honest in drumming it is best to learn 'chords' rather than tabs because well tabs are just used on the net and you will find it hard trying to look at both if you were to get a teacher he'd tell you to use chords. It's not about whether it's about being easier to read it's how much knowledge you get from learning from it in a certain method and thus resulting in easier reading in the future. Although books are good - they aren't a real person who can tell you if your playing too slow/too fast or even right things. So I would definately get yourself a guitar teacher, not only will you learn quicker but you will learn so much more and in a better way than just reading out of the book. However make sure you put in practice when your teacher isn't there so you become a better guitarist. Sorry if some of this is out I just gave advice based on experiences from starting out as a drummer and not a guitarist
