    Default Bit of help?

Well my family will get a dog after Christmas and we aren't sure what to get. It will be a boarder collie type dog (sheep dog) but it won't actually round up animals and stuff. The problem is that nobody is home during the day time as i am at school, my dad and bro work and such.. So we aren't sure to get a puppy or an older dog.. :s which one should we go for?

    Older dog.
Everyone seems to want puppys, then the older dogs get over-looked & it's harder to find homes for them.
Also if it's going to be alone a lot an older dog would be better as puppys need a lot of attention. :]

Older dog. If your not going to be
in during the day whats the point
of getting a puppy, or a dog for that matter.
    Anyway, older dog.

it depends, if ur going to be in sometimes e.g on weekends and are goin 2 be able to feel the gap from ur family 2 keep the puppy n make sure everything goes well.
but if you wont be able 2 cope with a lil puppy pooin on the carpet and weein etc. get a more trained dog and maybe a older dog, so you know you can leave it by itself for a couple of hours n wont have 2 come home 2 worry about a lil puppy.

    I would say....

Puppies need a lot of attention and vet bills can start off high if they havent had there injections,Nutering ect. Puppies will also need to be learnt manners ie not jumping on funriture, jumping up at you, biting, licking your face ect. They do need loads of attention and probly wont be house broken so they would not be the most suitable for you if one will be home because they also like to go throught a chewing everything age.

Old dogs can be the same, they can sometimes become attached to one person and think they are protecting them by not letting anyone else near the person, Youll find that most older dogs are house broken but will still poo and wee as a way of marking there territory, They can also become domanat over you and think they are incharge and that you are scared of them. However most old dogs have come from bad homes and will feel scared by everything causing them to snap and bite people.

I would sujjest looking for a milddle-aged dog, They will still be energetic and trainable like a puppy but will understand that it will be left alone from how many hours you parents and you will be out and that it wont chew anything you might get the odd poo now and agian so i would suggest talking it for a walk before you got o school.

When you go to look a dogs whever it be in a kennel, pet shop or a breeder, Look for the ones that come to you, are friendly and want to play, If buying from a breeder ask to see the parents, If the dog is pedagree then it should be registered witht eh kennel club make sure you get the pedagree papers to prove it.

Hope this has helped you, and have fun with whatever dog you pick

Please remember a dog is for life, Not just for christmas

i got a border terrier had him since he was bambino... You shouldn't really leave a dog at home all day. Get a staffordshire terrior if someone tried breaking into ur house they would kill them
