The PS2, which sells for about $130 US, moved 280,000 units, leading 259,000 units of Nintendo Co. Ltd.'s current generation offering, the Wii, which has a motion sensitive controller.
The PS2 sales bring lifetime sales for the device to 38 million.
The relatively low-end devices eclipsed sales of high-end offerings from Microsoft Corp. and Sony, which respectively sold 199,000 Xbox 360s and 130,000 PlayStation 3 consoles.
