    how would you describe

crumpets and marmite to an american.
(they have neither and have no clue what they are)
    in a simple way.

(+rep if you end my misery)

(I know what they are.. its just like
hard to explain, its like trying to explain what an orange is without using the word "fruit")

A crumpet is a cake made from flour and yeast. It is eaten mainly in the United Kingdom.

Marmite is a British savoury spread made from yeast extract.

I told them that about the marmite, they were just like "ew", it doesn't really describe what it tastes like v.well.

i always thought it was vegetable spread, i'd never taste it, it look's like that scuzz you scrape off a used baking tray or something.

i know what you mean. crumpets are a bit easier, but trying to describe marmite so it doesn't sound completely vile is well.. impossible. you can't actually describe its flavour.

Its like the durian fruit. Either you like marmite completely or hate it completely. I'm sure they sell some in US, get your mate to buy it and taste it for him/herself >:]
