Default Thomson Fly B757-200 engine fire on takeoff.

Just heared on the news that a Thomson Fly Boeing 757-200 had 2 heron bird strikes upon departure from 06L at Manchester this morning, causing a near instant starboard (right) engine fire.

From what ITV news says, the aircraft was in the air 45 minutes before landing again safely at Manchester, everybody ok - Flight deck crew reacted well and declared a mayday instantly.

The whole incident was captured on video by a spotter, and can be viewed here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGIzNJZOw-c

    Waiting for further news..

A spokesman for Manchester Airport said the engine did not catch fire but the flames were caused by burning of the birds.

And also the engines burning.. lol - Well the pilot did declare a mayday for an engine failiure so maybe they are right.

Well done to the flight deck crew, you did an amazing job.
