Default Mars Products Changed To Not Suit Vegetarians

What do you think to this?

“Due to a change in the ingredients used in our chocolate recipes from 1st May 2007 many of our products now contain whey. This is a by-product of the cheese making process and uses rennet derived from an animal source. Therefore we feel it is for individual vegetarians to judge whether they are comfortable in consuming cheese products that do not bear a vegetarian symbol; we would consider our products to fall into this same category.

Products that are currently in store or that you may have already purchased that carry a Best Before Date of 1st October or before are still suitable for your consumption, however if you have purchased any products with a best before after this date then we will be more than happy to refund the value of the product. Please see attached lists for further information.”

The actual letter scans and whole list can be seen here:

How strange... I thought it would be the actual Mars bar, but not Malteasers? Why do you need whey in chocolate?

I thought vegetarians would already be used to not eating enjoyable food

Just another thing they can add to their 'avoid' list.

Not exactly sure to be frank... think it covers a multitude of flavors thus saving them money- and making it from vegetable to animal bi-product= more money saved.

    Grow up.
Chocolate is easy to make and cheap too? They're a big company and the ingredients for chocolate aren't expensive? Maybe they're being different?

Not entirely sure... I'm sure animal derived rennit is cheaper to process that vegetable rennit.

I don't how to make chocolate, other than cocoa beans, sometimes vanilla and a bit of milk. But that's home chocolate I guess? Strange move for Mars, M&M peanuts are very popular around here!

Aye, especially since like half of asia is vegetarian- not sure how they think of animal bi-products there but..

Plus hindu's i assume wouldn't eat it, or jews possibly too...

Seems like a stupid move on their part :S
