Default Sky One steals Prison Break >=O

The finale of the current season is on Channel 5 tonight, but Sky One have nabbed the rights to televise the next series. This means all those who dont have Sky are gonna be gutted. First they take Lost from Channel 4, now Prison Break from Five

Sky One has poached the rights to Prison Break from Five in its latest raid on US acquisitions.

The deal with 20th Century Fox gives the broadcaster exclusive UK TV rights to all future and past seasons of the cult show, which begins its third season in the US later this summer. The second season concludes on Five next Monday (11th).

Sky One's acquisition of Prison Break follows its high-profile swoop for Lost last year and purchase of 24 from the BBC back in 2003.

"Prison Break, originally launched in 2005, instantly became a global success, captivating audiences with its plot twists," said David Smyth, head of acquisitions at Sky One. "This edge-of-the-seat drama is the perfect addition to our must-see slate of US programming."

A spokeswoman for Five said that Sky's bidding for the show had pushed up the price and that, in light of its declining ratings, "we didn't feel the asking price for season 3 represented good value".

As part of the same deal, Sky has also picked up the rights to the first two seasons of new time-travel drama Journeyman, airing on NBC this Fall. From the team behind The West Wing, the series stars Kevin McKidd (Trainspotting) as a man who discovers he can travel to the past and impact on people's lives for the better.

The guy who owns Sky is the son of the guy who owns Fox ... so not really a surprise.

Sky will only get those shows if they feel that they are going to be a significant success, if not, they'll just leave them to the b-channels, like 4.

Ultimately it's about who is the highest bidder, and not a single channel in the UK can compete with Sky. It's simply way out of every other channel's league.

its so unfair, sky have an unfair advantage when it comes to shows that are on fox. all the sky owner needs to do is cry to his daddy and ask for them.
