    uhm, that's not true...
i've kept fish for 7 years now, tropical for 6, and had guppies myself
it could be a disease called 'fin rot' which is easily treated with a medicine you can buy from your local aquatics store.
however, if you have this is your tank you should take the infected fish out of the tank and put it in a 'nursing tank'
fin rot is caused by bad water quality, a few things that can cause this are:
-not having a filter / a filter too small for the tank
-heater set to the wrong temperature
-not checking the water pH often enough and using Tap Safe when adding water (this is the most common cause as the water can go acidic)
-not having enough oxygen in the tank (if you havn't aready, get a bubble machine as plants just take all the nutrients out of the tank)
-tank too small for your amount of fish

Or, it could be caused by aggression, other fish biting the guppies tails. You should make sure your fish are suited to be kept with eachother, especially with tropical.
Unfortunatly, it's very hard to keep guppies with any fish other than, well, Guppies, since their bright coloured tails often cause other fish to attack them.
If you really want to keep guppies i suggest you only keep Tetras with them, as because of their size, they won't attack the guppies.

Judging by your other threads, to be honest i don't think you're ready for keeping tropical fish, they arn't as hardy as fresh water and are a lot of work, since you didn't even have a filter and over feed your fish, no wonder they're dying. I don't think you know enough about fish and fish keeping, sorry if that sounded nasty or anything.

You can't take the more experianced view of someone else? Obviosuly he knows more about fish than you, he wasn't being nasty, was just giving you advice. He could be right, maybe your not ready for tropical fish just yet.
You might want to start with freshwater.

There was no need to react like that tbh..

I used to have some guppys. They didn't last long though. Unfortunately, when you buy fish one of them usually has some kind of disease. So when I brought a load more, like all of my fish got the plague. I have 5 fish left now. Two zebra danio's (had for years, these two were my first fish along with a few others), one sicssortail and two neon tetra's. I did have a female swordtail that was also one of my first fish that I had for years, but it died recently.

Anyway, as Romance said. It's probably fin rot. You can buy this liquid to put in the water and it should cure it.

So why can't you accept it? Buy the medicine or treat your fish properly, because even I can see you're limited in experience and I don't even keep fish anymore "/ And even if you were going to get the medicine in the first place because you know what to do, why post a thread on it?

uh, if it's ''basic info'' then why didn't you even HAVE a filter for your fish in the first place?
and why did you think that guppies tails shrink when they die?
you obviously know nothing about the subject.
