    Default Overreaction....

I told a Madeleine McCann joke to my chemistry teacher today (they're flying around everywhere) and now I have detention every dinner time for the rest of the week.
    It's a bit harsh.
Similar thing happened to my friend last week, as our cooking teacher (who is scottish) got into her car to go home, my friend said to her:-

'Oi Miss, tell Colin McRae I said hi'

And he got suspended for a week for that.

Anything like this ever happened to anyone else?

why would you tell a joke like that to a teacher, and not expect any sort of punishment or telling off?

    that's actually not on.

the joke might be a bit cruel, but she could have said 'that's not appropriate.' a detention is WAY ott.
    goodbye.

you could always tell your parents, then they can just complain about the punishment that its too harsh or w.e?

Your mates teacher could have taken racially related offence as she could have maybe thought he was idolising her due to her ethnic background...

Just like if you were to say a racist joke about muslims or something to people from pakistan - you would get in a great deal of trouble and it would be understandable - so why is there a less harsh approach assumed when its white people?

Erm, what? Racist, don't be ridiculous. She probably suspended the guy for such a poor joke.
