Lightbulb Why do people say "HAPPY Halloween"...

Why do people say "Happy Halloween" when Halloween isn't really the happiest of celebrations.
It's the day of the dead and where you celebrate those who've died.

Maybe it's because America has comercialised Halloween and brought about this trick or treating stuff?

What are your views on this?

I thought Halloween was where people were trying to banish the spirits of the dead?

Plus little kids don't know the meaning of it all, they just see it as a bit of fun

For people who celebrate the dead on halloween, it's still happy. it's not somber just because it involves dead people. in most cultures when halloween first started, it was a happy occasion. families were brought together and ate with loved ones etc.

    I dont see your point?

and trick or treating was started in the u.k., not the u.s.

Well my point is that people who don't actually know all of that just say Happy Halloween because everyone else says it and the meaning of Halloween has moved on alot since then.
Now it's all about ghosts, darkness, evil, etc, so why do people still say Happy.

Yes but i think the U.S take it alot more serious. Especially on American Films during Halloween it looks awesome. Pumpkins down the streets.

actually, no it's not. it's about candy. it's about little kids getting one fun day out of the year to dress up and go door to door getting candy. we have plenty of chances to remember and celebrate the dead, it's called every other day of the year.

you're thinking way to deep into this.
