    Default What is?

    Will http://www.speedhosting.co.uk/servic...ed_hosting.php
the column on the left that says annual cost = £16.00

What does that mean? Overall it is £16 for that year, but will my friend be able to use it so that they can install their v bulletin forum with using that or do they need a resellers hosting?

Will it work on windows xp?

Actually, You cant install vBulletin on any host. PHP and mySQL have to be installed (I believe it can work with PostgreSQL as well)

But yeah, The £16 for 1 year would allow installation of a vB Forum. vBulletin cannot be installed on Windows XP unless you are running something like EasyPHP or XAMPP (Which I wouldnt suggest for a vB as the PC would need to always be on)

You can just install PHP, MySQL and Apache on your computer, and you've got a host. However, it's inadvisable to do so, as you'd have to leave your computer on 24/7, and your router would have to be forwarded to port 80, which is a security risk.

Yes, but it is easier just to install something like XAMPP which installs everything in one package. But yes, It is not advised to install it on a home PC as it would have to be on 24/7.

I personally wouldn't reccomend XAAMP on a live environment - it moves the locations of the PHP libraries etc, which can be annoying when trying to get support for those issues.
