Backstory:
The datacore consists of a laser system that transfers information through fiberoptic conduit to key components of the building. This data transfer system services an entire facility, involving everything from basic personnel filing to the fire control systems of automatic defensive emplacements both inside and outside the complex. While nonlethal, staring directly at the laser emitters with no eye protection would result in certain, permanent blindness.
