I shamefully think it has done many players will quit and mabye a nice system about combat level giving a higher cap?
Working out: , along with many other players, use magic in the dueling arena. Like many other mages, the spell of choice is obviously Ice barrage which takes 2 blood runes and 4 death runes Per Cast! Lets do the math:
Blood runes: 450gp each X 2 = 900 gp
Death runes: 250gp each X 4 = 1,000 gp
900 + 1,000 = 1,900gp PER CAST
So tell listen to this: If it costs us 1,900gp for every spell we cast, if we even cast TWO spells we're allready 800gp over the 3,000 gp limit! So what is the point for us to use magic anymore?

Another simple compromise, not sure if it's been stated before:
Caps based on combat or total level. Most of the real-world traders are low levels, and most stakers are high levels.
Level 3-10: 1k cap
Level 10-20: 5k cap
Level 20-30: 10k cap
Level 30-40: 20k cap
Level 40-50: 50k cap
Level 50-60: 100k cap
Level 60-70: 250k cap
Level 70-80: 500k cap
Level 80-90: 1m cap
Level 90-100: 10m cap
Level 100-110: 25m cap
Level 110-120: 100m cap
Level 120-126: Unlimited
The numbers can be changed of course. The cap is based on the lower player's combat level. Duels must be 1-1 stakes (stated earlier by someone else).
