Default Foreign Manager Likely For Top Job

The chance of England getting another foreign coach looks increasingly likely after Fabio Capello climbed the list of candidates to succeed sacked Steve McClaren.

Capello keen to take up challenge

The Italian is in line for football's hardest job after Martin O'Neill followed Sam Allardyce in ruling himself out of the running.
And more importantly, Capello is the only candidate who says he actually wants the job.
If, as expected, fans' choice Jose Mourinho joins the growing number saying no, Capello might be the only man who ends up saying yes.

"I am ready," he said. "It would be very interesting and I have always been fascinated by tough challenges."
Capello's sub-standard grasp of English might be a drawback.
But although he has been out of a job since being dumped by Real Madrid, his CV will be better than any of the other contenders.
Winning seven league titles with four different clubs is a major achievement in anyone's book.
    Mourinho is fans' favourite

Jurgen Klinsmann - who guided a poor German outfit to the semi-finals of the last World Cup - is also available.
The two English candidates still being discussed are Alan Shearer, who has no management experience whatsoever, and England Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce, who blundered at Manchester City.
So it is little wonder FA chief executive Brian Barwick has few choices - if he wants another home-grown manager.
One joke doing the rounds is Barwick sees an old woman in the street carrying lots of bags. He walks up to her and asks: "Can you manage?"
And she says: "I don't want the job!"
