    Default Chemistry

    Complete each reaction, and then write a balanced chemical equation.

    [ ] = subscripts

    Fe[2]O[3](aq) ---->

    NaOH(aq) + CaCO[3](aq) ---->

    could someone please solve them and show/explain how you got each answer? thanks. + rep

    Fe[2]O[3] (aq) ------> I tihnk theres something missing there, because you meant to have the Iron Oxide + Something then it makes a reaction?

    NaOH(aq) + CaCO[3] (aq) ----> Ca(OH)[2] + NaCO[3]

    I think

    There is something missing from your first equation. The second one is:

    NaOH(aq) + CaCO[3](aq) -> NaCO[3] (s) + CaOH(aq)

    The carbonate Ion is negative and the Sodium ion is positive so they join to become Sodium Carbonate (solid). The Calcium Ion is negative and the hydroxide ion is (2) positive so they join to form Calcium hydroxide (aqueous).

    For the second one:

    NaOH + CaCO3 --> Ca(OH)2 + Na2CO3

    2 Na + ions join with 1 CO3 2- ion, and 1 Ca 2+ ion joins with 2 OH - ions. Finally you need to balance the equation:

    2 NaOH + CaCO3 --> Ca(OH)2 + Na2CO3
