In console (`) type cl_crosshairscale 10000

It makes your cursor really small which is better for headshots and kills.

Move side to side when shooting someone, as its harder to hit a moving target.

Keep cursor in head region.

Learn to Crouch & Jump to reach higher places.

Sigh I could give you a good tutorial of the basics of match play in the game. The other option is to just play public games all the time and turn into a bad player. Anyway he probably doesn't know what console is, and having a small crosshair isn't an advantage.
