what the hell r error 404's

404 is the apachi servers error code for page not found. If this error happens it then redirects the browser to a error 404 page to help them figure out why its not working, and let them go back / find the real page

not all hosts support custom error 404 / other error pages.
plus 404.shtml is only cpanles page for use as an error 404, many server configurtions may be differnt "/
