Default Kissing in public a criminal offence?

    Hey there everyone.

Well a few weeks back, while watching the news I came across a new legislation South Africa has implemented. Now im not sure if this rule pertains to the UK aswel but I pretty much doubt it.

Basically if you are either 16 or under the age of 16, kissing in public can now get you arrested. Infact, even if you in your own home and get caught kissing when under this new age limit if someone chooses to report you, once again you can face criminal charges. I'm way past the age of 16 however, I can not really come to a solid conclusion on this for the youth. Problem? Solution?

My question is, how do you feel about this? Do you feel its violating a human right or do you think this new law will prevent rape and other acts of violence in a country, which is why this law was passed by the government in South Africa.

    lol.

A kissing ban will not stop rape.

And it is very discriminating for people our age.

Well kissing might not totally eradicate rape however it can lower the number of rape cases. Also with this law it might help prevent the large numbers of under age pregnancy?

I also agree for the youth it is discriminating.

I really fail to see how stopping people kissing in public under the age of 16 is going to lower the number of rape cases.

Rapist's generally don't want to be kissing the AP, numerous reasons such as it would leave saliva in the AP's mouth and would be another bit of DNA for the Police to use as evidence.

Again, stopping kissing in public isn't going to reduce teenage pregnancies for the obvious reasons - you don't need to kiss someone to have a baby do you!

*** kind of logic is that? South Africa is a messed up country so we shouldn't copy any of their laws.

In the UK it's illegal to kiss (properly) in public if you're under 14, but no-one's actually going to stop you and it's not really punishable. Doesn't affect me though really; if I happen to be getting with 13 year olds I should probably be locked up anyway.

Clearly not Antony but if you look on a more mature level you would understand that its not really about 16 year olds kissing. What the new law is trying to do is to stop the whole image that its ok for children at the age of 16 or under to be involved in the world of sex of any kind. I mean it doesnt take a rocket scientist to realize kissing doesnt make you pregnant, what its trying to do is to stop kissing leading on to other things. So instead of saying, dont rape, its stopping the problem at the source. Lets put it this way, you a rapest and you walking the streets to try and find some child to target as your next victim. You come across a 15 year old girl who is sitting on a bench down her boyfriends throat. The next day she visits the same park alone. What type of message do you think this sends to a sex offender? Also, the legal age for sex is 16. It also does not take a rocket scientist to realize kissing leads to other things.

Anyway I really don't agree nor disagree with this legislation just trying to spell out exactly why its there.

Secondly to say South Africa is a bad country is a narrow minded and ignorant remark to make really when every country has its own bad points. I cant even begin to count on two hands as to why South Africa, in certain aspects is a far better country than the UK and vice versa.
