Is it worth me starting with phpBB

I'm thinking:

Start in the shallow end [phpBB] move to the deep [vB] and learn to swim slowly..

or

Throw me in the deep with [vB] straight away, I like the look

Well actually i think you have the wrong idea about phpbb, if you look on the web there are very few really popular vb sites, yet 1000 and 1000s of massivly popular phpbb ones.
phpbb although differnt can easly rival the likes of Vb and in many respects is probabaly superior. Its foolish to belive just becuse phpbb is free, its somehow inferior, after all firefox is free and open sourse in much the same way.

Id go for phpbb3, its a nice bit of forum software, and you'll save a load of money and get access to a few 1000 times more skins, hacks and mods
