Live:Youll have to pay. i did the 15 quid for 3 month, or you can do the 40 quid for 12 month. or you can buy 1 month(dunno how much.)
Nope, arcade doesent come with a ethernet cable.
Halo 3 is 39.99 from game.
Silver basiclly lets yets you talk and that to your mates, but if you want to play games online, youll need gold. silver is free, gold (as stated a few sentances above) Does cost.

When you make a new xbox live account (when you first sign up), you get the first month free (gold) anyway

On your xbox.. when you first connect to xbox live it will ask you if you've already got an account or if you want to make a new one. Just select to make a new one and follow the instructions. It then shows a offer (free month of gold).. select it and create ur account
