POLICE are investigating the discovery of a confidential Home Office disc by computer technicians - which was reportedly in a laptop bought on eBay.
The disc was found by staff at Leapfrog Computers, in Westhoughton, near Bolton, on a laptop taken in for a service.
A Home Office spokeswoman stressed last night that the disc was encrypted so members of the public could not access its contents.

“In between the keyboard and the circuit board we found a CD that said ’Home Office highly confidential’.
“We put it in the CD drive to check it wasn’t bogus but it was encrypted.
“Both the laptop and the disk were encrypted, thus safeguarding any information that might be stored on them.
