The Sims 3 is about to be announced and information is starting to roll out..
The site has a banner www.thesims3.com I'm guessing the site launches 19th March with lots of information and screenies.
A magazine that's released in April has The Sims 3 logo and a picture on the front cover:

Full article:The biggest change to The Sims 3 is that it takes place in a wide-open, constantly changing neighborhood -- a much bigger sandbox, if you will, and a much more complex simulation. The town and park you see on the cover image to the right (click to enlarge) exist in the same seamless space as your Sims' household, and what you do outside your home now matters as much as what you do within. (Yes, previous expansion packs added out-and-about activities, but they were always separate sub-games. Here, everything's completely integrated.) The game also sees a major shift in how Sims' motives are handled: Individual meters indicating bladder and sleep-deprivation levels are replaced by a new system of discrete moods, the aim being to get players off the treadmill of fulfilling primal eat-sleep-pee-repeat requirements so they can focus more on, well, going out on the brand new town.

Some of the keynotes:
It's a big world instead of seperate houses/community lots.
Bladder Needs has gone
Energy Needs has gone
Another bit of news...
Greg Kramer (The guy that writes the strategy guids for The Sims 2) Has said on his forum that FreeTime is not the last Sims 2 expansion. My guess is (Since it goes old new old new and The Sims 2 Devs have been asking the posters on The Sims 2 forum what their favourite Superstar and Makin' Magic objects were) that it will be a Fame/Magic related Expansion.
