    Default Remote Desktop

I cant get remote desktop to work

My laptop has vista home premium and my PC has vista home basic and I want to be able to control my PC from my laptop because my PC has more files on it.

Vista comes with a remote desktop program but has anyone got it working fully? Can anyone tell me how to set it up please?

Not sure if this works with Vista, but certainly XP.

Get the System Properties up, and there should be a tab called "Remote", make sure you have enabled remote assistance (it is normally set to off by default), make sure you have File Sharing enabled on both PCs and restart them both before trying.

You can't control a PC running Vista Home Basic using remote desktop.

If you want to be able to do that, I would suggest using a VNC program.

    TightVNC, RealVNC, etc.

I'm sorry to invade your thread; must RealVNC be installed on both computers, and both be turned on?

Yes you need it on both computers (I think) and you have to set up up to allow connections from the other computer etc.

Its not free but theres a free version
