Default Is it best to tell parents about being Gay/Bisexual/Lesbian?

    Just a question people,

Is it better to tell parents or not? I have seen a thread that put this question on my mind.

I am debating the point of this thread as my mum and family are some what 'Homophobic' and I am affraid would not understand, am I right to not tell them?

But Generally, is it better to hide from Parents or Family your sexuality?

It's generally better to tell them, but not in all cases.

If your bisexual and not 100% you want to tell them, personally i wouldn't because they don't need to know who you are with, unless of course you start to fall in love with them then yeah, it's better to tell them.
But if your gay/lesbian, they may have aspirations for you like children and what not, the longer you leave them the bigger the hopes they'll have. So in the long run it's better to tell them sooner than later so they don't feel you've betreayed them for a long part of your life.

Of course it's not. If you do you'll be sheilding your parents away forever, and that includes your love life. It's so much better to be open, trust me.

Who said you need to tell them? They'll know if and when you get a boyfriend.

Hmmm, parents you could tell and close friends, but being open to everyones looks to me to cause a problem. People will look at you like a novelty, rather than a normal friend. That's what it was like to my friends, when 2 of which were a lesbian couple.

yeah one of my best mate sees me as more of a novelty.
all he says is stuff like "i'm really glad you're my mate, i always wanted a gay mate", i don't think he means it but it's pretty degrading.
once we were on the bus home and everyone was staying at mine, and one of the girls wasnt allowed and he goes "don't worry, tel your mum hes a *** and then she'll let you stay", i was like :///////

I think that you should deffinately tell your parents,
Maybe not other members of their family just yet if they are homophobic.
Honesty is the best policy and all that.. ;]
    I love it when you
    flex like that
