Default Boris Johnson the new London Mayor!

It has been confirmed now that conservative candidate Boris Johnson will now be mayor for the city of London.
A mere 140,000 votes separated himself and Labour candidate Ken Livingstone.
    1,168,738 - Johnson (1,043,761 + 124,977 in 1st/2nd prefs respectively)
    1,028,966 - Livingstone (893,877 + 135,089)

This final result sums up the day in general for Labour (-9 councils), losing out heavily to Conservative (+12) in a majority of areas.
The liberal democrats came nowhere near, although did gain 1 more council.

Conservatives councilors across the country won 256 seats, whereas labour lost 331. Lib dems gaining 34 and the welsh party gaining 33 and 5 more going to other parties.

This is the worst local elections result for labour for 40 years.

In Livingstone's acceptance speech, he paid tribute to Livingstone by stating his admiration for shaping the office as he has and dealing with the London 7/7 by speaking for London.

A new London, let's see how this pans out.

I was about to post! When I heard about this, I pissed myself. London is going to be an easy target... After what Boris said about Liverpudlians, I really do believe he will be Mayor for 6 months, tops.

I like Boris! People dislike because he is a politician that has a sence of humour. I do however think he'll be a good mayor for England's BEST city

Ken was stupid, public transport is too expensive in my area.

Boris deserves a chance, I quite like him, but do wish he would do something about his hair before he begins to tackle the bigger issues in London.
It's the quality of your posts that count, not the quantity!

Dignity does not consist in possessing honours, but in deserving them.
