Depends on what you want to spend. A small car with a small engine is a must unless you're very well off.

My mums only paying for my lessons, not the car. So I won't be getting the best car on the market

Vauxhall Corsa, Fiat Punto, Ford Fiesta, Citroen Saxo or Renault Clio are your best bets for a cheapish first car.

I would say that the best first car you can get is a Rolls Royce Phantom (250k+).

If that is out of your price range.. unfortunately then I would say something like a Bently Arnage (175k+), even still if that is out of your price range maybe a Range Rover Overfinch (100k+). And if you really are pinching the pennies a Pegeuot 206 (5k+).

Once I get my license, I'm getting a 25 year old Mercedes from my Uncle.

Get a Clio like I did. 1.2 Dynamique would be your best option for style etc.

You want one with less than 60k miles, full service history (FSH) and not too old if you can.
