Apparently any USB microphone will work so if you've got one lying around you could use that instead of getting the rock band one.

The only problem with using the GH guitar is that the new Rock Band one is featuring something extra so you're missing out. I'm sure it's not worth paying to get the guitar for, but just a thought.
