Limited Connectivity?

I've got this white Netgear that I can use for my room and it's really strong when it's in my room it gets 5 bars and stuff which is good for me because I'm all the way upstairs I'm only getting around 1/2 bars.. it's dead annoying. So whenever I plug this it always gives me limited connectivity.. How comes? It's annoying the internet never works and then it doesn't let me connect to anything else.

Can't I scrap this and rename it and everything so it works as a brand new one in my room?

I forgot to mention, it used to be used as part of a bridge but isn't anymore.

If its new, You will have to set it up on your pc i think..
