Need to know how to build a PC

I've got my work experience next week, and one of my tasks is to rebuild a computer which has been stripped down. I'm not 100% on putting stuff like the motherboard and psu in.

Please help guys!

A post I made a whhile ago.

A rough guide of the order to do things off the top of my head. Make sure you touch parts by their edges and be careful not to touch the contacts.

1) Lay your motherboard on a flat surface on top of the anti-static packing.

2) Open the clip where the processor slots in and carefully lay in the processor chip. Be careful not to tough either the bottom of it (where the metal pins are) or the top as you will get grease on it from your fingers. The arrow on the edge of the CPU and the arrow on the socket line up with each other. Close the clip.

3) If your heatsink does not have a heat pad on the bottom (the stock Intel ones do) then apply a thin layer of thermal paste evenly on the CPU.

4) Take your heatsink and position it over the CPU. The new ones connect to the motherboard by pins that go into the holes and click in. Push them all in firmly and make sure the heatsink is very secure (it's a tight fit). If your heatsink did not come with the fan already attached then screw this to the top of it. Plug the cable to the fan into the cpu_fan socket on the motherboard.

5) Insert your RAM into the slots on your motherboard. Make sure they are pushed firmly in and the holders at the side have closed.

6) Open your case. Prepare your case by making sure you have replaced the plate at the back where the ports go with the one that came with your motherboard. Screw in the standoffs into the part of the case where the motherboard will be. It will sit on these standoffs.

7) Take your motherboard and position it in your case on the standoffs and screw it in. Make sure the ports are correctly lined up at the back.

8) Take your PSU (if your case does not already have one installed) and screw it into your case. Take the large power connector from your PSU and plug it into your motherboard. If your motherboard has a socket for it, plug in the 4-pin atx connector as well.

9) Take your hard drive(s) and slot it/them into the relevant place(s) in your case and screw it/them in. Plug a power connector to each of them and then either an IDE or SATA cable (depending on which your drive is) into it/them and connect it/them to your motherboard in the relevant socket(s).

10) Take your disk drive(s) and slot it/them into the relevant place(s) in your case. Screw it/them in. Plug a power connector from your PSU into it/them. Plug an IDE or SATA cable (depending on which your drive is) and connect it/them to your motherboard.

11) Connect you fans to the relevant sockets - either case_fan on your motherboard, or they may just need a power cable.

12) Connect the cables that go to your power/reset button and your front led lights into the relevant sockets on your motherboard (check your manual for this).

13) Close your case and plug the cables for power, monitor, keyboard & mouse etc. into the back.

14) Test .
