    Default Favourite Countries

What is your favourite foreign country that has produced some of the best films that you can think of and why? Giving some examples of those films. People with sense and intelligence only please, i.e. Neversoft, Neil and Joshuae.

I choose Italy as my favourite horror films of all time have come out of the country, especially the classic giallo and exploitation pictures of the 1970s and '80s, with iconic writer-directors such as Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci.

Okay, well this thread is for those with a vested interest in film, rather than casual viewers.

I don't really know what my favoruite country for films is, but besides English speaking nations, I have seen two good foreign films, both on BBC Four.
One was a good Brazilian documentary-type thing showing the lives of two people at different ends of the social class scale and their lives intertwine at the end, while the other was a historical French murder-comedy sort of thing about some poisoner but I forgot what it was called.
(will be updated whenever I can be bothered to)

It's definitely between Japan and China for me.
China introduced me to Martial Arts films, such as Snake in the Eagles Shadow, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers and Dragons Forever. The martial art's genre is one of the things that really started my interest in films. I grew up watching Jackie Chan movies and am now a massive fan. Jackie Chan is the most amazing person in the world, in my opinion.
Japan introduced me to anime films. Ghost in the Shell, Perfect Blue, Akira, Tekkonkinkreet, Howls Moving Castle and Steamboy to name a few. Aswell as introducing me to the likes of Hayao Miyazaki, Shido Nakamura, Ryuhei Kitamura, Katsuhiro Otomo and Satoshi Kon. Japan also bought me my favourite sport movie of all time - Ping Pong.
So, yes. A very hard choice, but if I had to decide, I'd probably go for China in the end. Simply because of Jackie Chan. Hmm, but then I think of all the Japanese marvels I just listed, damn, I don't think I can decide! No, China first. Japan, second, but not at all far behind.
