Lost via Dormus help

I'm up to the bit where you have to find Desmond and talk to him about the hatch. He's in between two trees and ign guides say once youve talked to him, you go past him and there is a trail of bottles and crap which leads to the hatch. But theres bottles where ever i run. Ive tried it loads of times but i cant figure out where the hatch is. So any help please?
