    Default Steam hogging Disk space

ATM I only had a 40 gig hard disk and I'm trying to make more space, might buy an external soon. But does anyone know why Steam takes up a whole 6 gig? Counter Strike only takes up 500 mb, and the other two games I have installed, Day of Defeat Source and Half Life 2 Deathmatch can't be taking up 5.5 gig. Is there anythig I can delete to make space?

Steam doesn't take up space for no reason. Believe it or not, those games can take a lot of space up.

Mine takes 15GB up and I only have 4 or 5 games installed.

Glad I don't have that then... I think I'll just go buy an external.

You'll get nowhere with a 40GB HD nowadays

Steam might download updates or store user profiles which might be taking up the space?

Yeah sure counter stike source and the other games only actually take up that much space of their own content but in addition to that there is the shared content that is used by all three games you mentioned.

Counter-Strike can take that much up because of maps and sound effects it downloads etc it can mount up
