Looks fake, but the article sounds official. If that was a 3D game it would be terrible. And if GTA was 2D it would be terrible. It's just a terrible idea. But it's still interesting to see what they do...

Wow that's an incredible amount of fail that I'm having trouble comprehending.

1) Fake? Hell no, it was announced by Nintendo at e3 which you know, is gosh darn some big game-y ting. It's real, it's official etc.

2) A 3d gta on a handheld would be terrible? Oh yeah well rockstar have never done it before... OH WAIT - the stories versions on the psp's. They didn't take off amazingly well but they survived and I think this should do well as finally Nintendo is getting a slice of GTA cake.

3) If GTA was 2d it would be terrible? Yeah I guess the first games of the series that carried it and helped it get its feet and grow into the gta we have today were terrible.. WAIT no I don't - they were great and they worked fine.

I'm interested to see how they'll do it. It could end up like a mix of both with the birds eye view from the first GTA games on the top screen and a 3d interface on the bottom screen..

At the E3 games expo, from which my co-editor Nik Taylor is currently reporting, Nintendo have just announced that Rockstar will be bringing out a Grand Theft Auto game for the DS. It will go by the name of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.
When I texted a friend the news, his response was a three-word text:
"What?! You joking?!"
And this is a guy who usually knows gaming news almost preternaturally early, like some kind of mystical videogame prophet.
So yes, this has been a surprise out of Nintendo's corner. For the DS, a GTA title is a pretty significant departure from the more family-friendly games we've grown accustomed to.
There are no screenshots yet - in fact, nothing but a logo from Nintendo so far, and the fact that the game will be set in Liberty City once more. But with the game scheduled for a winter release, you'll most likely not have to wait long for more from Rockstar...

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is an upcoming game for the Nintendo DS developed by Rockstar Leeds in conjunction with Rockstar North, due for release in winter 2008. It is the twelfth title in the Grand Theft Auto series.
It is set in modern-day Liberty City and will focus on Triad crime syndicates.[1] It will feature new characters, a custom game engine, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and will be the fourth GTA title released on a Nintendo platform, after Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2 for the Game Boy Color, and Grand Theft Auto Advance, for the Game Boy Advance. It will also be the second Grand Theft Auto game to be exclusive to a game console.

Pretty sure that it was. GTA was suppose to come out in 2007, but they delayed it to April 2008.
