    Post [Dev] City 7 [[Ryno]]

    Hey,

I will get straight to the point. I am creating an MMOCC (Mass Multiplayer Online Chat Community) for the public. It is called 'City 7' and is about a city set in the future where technology is tremendous. When you join and login you are in a city street and can talk to anyone warp to your room or walk into a shop and buy yourself a new house or buy furniture to put in your room. If you get a new house you can send a message to the council and get your house set as a public room in many catagorys. (Gaming Etc.) There is loads mroe to talk about but i will not say ;]

If this test goes well i will start developing a medieval version and other types to keep people interested. They will all be seperate games but still very fun.

    Ryno ;]]

P.s. If you have any questions or want to get involved Pm me or post. The website will open soon and Staff are needed.

Sounds okay. Can you do the coding/gfx side yourself?

So you like many others have come to these forums to announce your mmocc? Well before you do let's go over a few things.

Well firstly, unless you are very talented, you shall need a bit of money to spend on the project. Eg. For a dedicated server.

Secondly, you need to rememeber that this may sound fun, but remeber. You need to run it 24/7.

Thirdly, make sure you have the right staff, don't just hire your mates. Choose the people who have the standards you want.
Some people may work for free.

Now since we have gone over the basics you shall need to know what you are coding your client in.

For people who don't know, the client is the mmocc itself. Commonly, the client is coded in Actionscript or Lingo.

    Programs;

Actionscript - Adobe Flash CS3 (recommended)
    Lingo - Director 11 (recommended)

Now let's think about your server. Firstly, it needs to be multiuser, otherwise it is not multiplayer. There are plenty of free ones, such as SmartFoxServer (20 users) or go down to the server source forums!

Now, let's move onto the graphics. Without graphics you can't have a game.
What style are your graphics? Are they all fluffy ponies or people? You need to think about all of this.

Once you have, you should now think about making a start to the art. You can do this yourself or even hire someone.

Finally, you need to think about the name of your game.

The name is not very important at first, make sure you think long and hard about this.

    My advice is - don't.

Unless you've got hefty financial backing then your site will never take off.

Oh, and if you still proceed with the idea - don't open the site until the client is ready because it's just a waste of time.
