Because most people are accustomed to what Hollywood churns out rather than anything indepedent or b-grade. Both Hulk and 10,000 B.C. look like a million dollars compared to thousands of films that are genuinely nothing but terrible.

manos is such a stereotypical one to say, since it's always at the imdb's bottom list. no one sees that movie other than to see how bad it is. its what the movie is known for.
