Default Many movies to rise to 18 :@

    Hey

Today some get-tough councils could raise movies which feature smoking (Cigarettes or cigars) to an 18 age rating. This would include teen favourites such as Hell Boy II, Mamma Mia! and The Dark Night.

If the plan goes ahead Britain could see other councils having local cinemas take up the idea and raise their age ratings. If this becomes widespread across the UK we could also see TV shows with smoking in moved to after 9PM.

It won't affect me as I'm in Northern Ireland and its some councils in the mainland. However I think this is stupid. Some movies are made to attract a teenage audience, they will flop if only 18+ can access them and many more teenagers would turn to illegal online streaming.

    So what are your opinions?

What annoys me about this is the fact that the minimum age (by law) to smoke is 16 yet to buy and to watch apparently now is 18. And then obviously the fact that this makes no sense at all!

Probably due to there being no 16 age rating for movies.

The minimum age to smoke is 18 in the UK. It was raised in October 2007 innit.

And I doubt this will happen widespread or even at all. It would demolish the British Film Industry. All we would get is foreign imports. And anyway, all films would have to do is cut out about 2 seconds of footage, or digitally edit out the cigarette and all will be dandy. Im babbling. Did any of what I said make sense?

    Yeah it did

Wasn't there an uproar recently about them editing Casablanca to remove the cigarettes from it? It's a stupid idea anyway, they should spend time fixing the economy instead of worrying about young people smoking.
