    Default USB 2.0

Right my Granddad has a rather old computer, it originally had Windows 98 on so I'd say about 6 or 7 years old, anyway he's bought a brand new iPod nano for himself and it's moaning about USB problems, and the problem is clearly the iPod Nano uses USB 2.0 and his computer doesn't have USB 2.0 yet.

How can he get USB 2.0, is there any adaptors? Sadly PCI Cards are probably out as I'm sure his computer doesn't support PCI.

Well, almost every computer, even my 8 year old PC, has PCI slots, they are the white ones on the motherboard. PCI would be the only solution I think.

USB 1 and 2 work well with eachother. It is backward compatible. That's not the problem.

    See, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1584
If the computer has USB 1.1 ports, you can use the iPod nano or iPod shuffle on these computers.
You can do it with a nano/shuffle, but transfer speeds can only be up to 12Mbits/second, as opposed to 480Mbits/second if you had USB 2.0.
I'm not crazy, ask my toaster.
