National Express coaches will definiately be cheapest yeah, it will take 4-5 hours though, but at the cost of just £12 it could be worth it. Trains are probably more of a feasible option, you'll get there quicker but you'll pay a price, planes are just too much hassle, none-environmental and you pay too much tax.
My Nan went to London for a week and she got the bus (Well kinda like a coach) She got a return for about £50. Only a suggestion.

someone at the train station yesterday said you can get a train to london for £10, but I didn't see anything saying that so might not be able to. Apparently it was on a Central something train.
