    Default Ban idea

I'm just wondering if this would be possible.
A recent post that I read kinda made me think of this and I'm sure that it has been brought up before but, once a member is banned would it be possible to put them on sort of a temporary auto-ban?

This could be anytime up to like a month or something? Because honestly, if someone has done something bad enough that they need to be banned then I really do think that it's stupid that they can just make a new account and get back to doing whatever it was that they were doing.

I can't really see a negative point to this idea since it would be making sure the person doesn't just make a new account, which is the whole idea of them being banned; to have them gone.

I wouldn't mind getting others opinions about this but if you don't have anything to contribute then please, don't post.

    Thanks

I agree to the idea but some people may find a way to work around it such as change ip address on purpose then create an account.

Well if someone were to do that then they'd pretty much have to change the way they posted (for example if they were constantly flaming people) to avoid being noticed by the mods and whatnot, which I think would be a positive.

Aww I see but I can't see some people changing on this forum and if they get auto temp-ban then they probz will continue to make accounts each and every time and get worse and worse.

This is what the Moderated Posts system is designed to prevent. People can't just create another account and continue causing mayhem, the first 15 posts of every account are moderated and need to be viewed by Staff and approved before they can be seen by anyone else. If someone does return on another account to cause trouble they'll be stopped in their tracks before any of their posts can ever be seen publicly.
It's worked extremely well so far, spam bots are almost unheard of now, only one has managed to get through so far and that was because of a mistake on our end rather than a way round the system and blatant trolls and trouble makers are halted before they can even start.

Although ideas and input are always appreciated we've got a great system in place already that's designed specifically for this problem.

Wow that like the coolest system this forum has since hearing whatelse it does, I never knew it was designed to stop people from returning on other accounts aswell and create caos. Thumbs up tbh.

yeah, I'm not trashing that system in anyway, but it's not exactly hard to post 15 times in a normal manner. In fact someone could probably have it done within a day or two and easily be back to their normal flaming and what not.

No I agree I rather like this idea. For bullies and flamers and trollers it might be a good idea to have a two week to one month cool off period where they are autobanned. Perhaps the time off the forum would show them what they'd be missing out if they were autobanned.

However I feel that it may be damaged in effectiveness if they keep coming back and get banned, because they figure "Well I'll be ok in a while." Do you think that we should extend their temporary autoban should they make an attempt to return to the forum during the period?

That's a pretty good idea as it would most likely ward people off from trying to come back during the period of time that they should just stay off (if they really want to come back, then I'm sure they won't mind waiting)
