How do I put DVD films onto my iPod?

I've been looking at the prices for films on the Tunes store, bloody £11 for some of them, so I want to put my DVD films on it, last time I tried it put it into little bits and spread it everywhere.

Yeah, download handbrake (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21117), and rip the DVD into mpeg-4 format, easy as pie.
