    Try configuring your sound board, it is probably under AC97 or something like that..
    I'm at a point in my life where I don't care if you like me or you don't. If you like me, cool. If you don't, meh.

    Make sure the Mic Volume is not muted, turn it up full blast

    To test if it picks up anything go to Run -> sndrec32.exe

    then record your sound the green line should wave around the place if it picks up any sounds from your mic

    As it's a plug-in jack and it works with other computers than means it's a problem with your computer.

    It could be software related, try the above or try get the computet to recognise a microphone is plugged in.

    It could also be a hardware problem, try plugging another microphone into it and see if that works.

    I think this may be the same problem as mine.

    Try this;
    1. Click on the sound / volume controls icon.
    2. Click options > Advanced controls.
    3. Their should be a control for microphones now.
    4. Click 'advanced' underneath and then tick the 'Mic boost' checkbox.
    5. See if this helps, Here is a screenshot to help you.
