    - Rep

I'm not sure if it's been suggested before and how other members might feel, but I think there is a way to help reduce the number of pointless -rep posts that we see being reported every day.

When pointless -rep is removed from the innocent member, I'm guessing that the member who gave the pointless -rep is probably collecting infractions or being warned, and they themselves are not penalised by reputation point deduction. Correct me if I am wrong.

What I want to suggest is that anyone caught giving pointless -rep does get penalised, be it a reduction of either 5, 10 or even 15 rep points.

I'm not sure whether this is workable, or a rubbish idea lol. Thoughts on this!
It's the quality of your posts that count, not the quantity!

I don't reckon so, it's a good idea in theory but frankly just about ALL -rep can be (and often is) argued as being pointless so people would get penalised for genuine -rep and it would cause more problems. I myself gave out a -rep yesterday and fully explained why, and still got a reply saying "thanks for the pointless rep" with some little insult

I believe the consequence is a PM the first time just telling you what you've done wrong and that they'll be a punishment if you do it again. The punishment is also your rep is checked through and rep is removed.

I'm not sure what happens the second time, I imagine it's a infraction or caution but I think decreasing rep power by 15 on the second time will help a bit so yeah, go for it

It's a good idea but I can't see it happening, it would involve alot more work for the Reputation Editor and I can't see them wanting to do more work.

Perhaps, but only for obvious cases. Like ones with comments such as "osoosododi" or ones abusing/swearing.

yes but many people will complain that the -rep is pointless even if it isn't so people could get wrongly accused of issuing pointless rep & then there would be arguments etc etc...
