Yes, I think they will.
Nintendo have trade marked names, and the DS games have data so that data can be transferred from the Johto region - which is Gold, Silver and Crystal only
So eventually - yes.

I emailed Nintendo and requested that they remake Red and blue but in the style of Diamond and Pearl. They said they had nothing planned for the future.
