Default No accounts at login screen?

I'm on Windows XP Pro SP2, and basically on the "Welcome" screen I don't see any accounts.
I've tried the Alt+Ctrl+Del trick and I can't login to my account or "Administrator".
I've also tried booting from my XP installation disk but the PC won't recognise it.
As well as that I've tried F8 on startup and selecting Hard Disk.
I've also tried resetting the CMOS battery.
And finally, I've also tried safe mode, lots of times.

It could be of some help that my user accounts are not password protected?
And also that I took out all the power cables when I reorganised the wiring, but I noted which sockets went where and put them all back exacly as they where, so it's unlikely this caused it.

I do not want to have to reinstall XP, but I will if I have to.

    Any help appreciated.

It turned out to be my internal CD Drives, I got my dad's really old Plug and Play CD Drive which runs without drivers and I managed to get the PC to boot from the XP disk that way. I'm doing a Automated System Recovery now. It'll probably just break again tommorow though, I hate Windows.
