I know it's lending stuff.

But how does it work?

How do you get back? ect...

Open the trade box, right click the item and press lend.
You can select how long the loan is for and when its over it will come/go to/from you.

uhh im not sure what you mean exactly but yes, people do pay money for something to be lent to them, like i believe people pay 10k an hour for whip

The trade limit still applies even if you want to pay someone for lending you the item.
