Urgent Help Needed: Restoring a database using Putty (SSH)

What command do I need to enter to restore using putty?

ERROR at line 1: Unknown command '\'.
[root@server ~]# mysql -u irapid_vb -p irapid_vb < /home/irapid/public_html/database.gz
Enter password:
ERROR at line 1: Unknown command '\'.
[root@server ~]#

I have tried that but as you can see it doesnt work.

database name: irapid_vb
database user: irapid_vb
database password: password
database location public_html/database.gz
username: irapid

Above is an example information. What command would I need to restore this database? I have root access to the VPS.
Could someone please give me the exact command so I can enter it without havng to replace anything?
