    Default Consent forms

How old do you have to be for your parents not to have to sign consent forms for you to go away to places with places like schools, colleges and work?

I'm 18 and I've been asked to get my parents to sign a form for me to on some gay trip. Are they allowed to do that? I thought once you're 18, you're classed as an adult and have the right to make your own decisions.

I would have thought that aswell, you are an adult so yeh you are responsible for your own actions and you parents shouldn't need to sign for trips and such. Although I do remember something like this coming up in College about a week ago, someone on my course is 19 and he was going away for a few days so he had to get his tutors to sign the form to say they would allow him to go away. But he also needed to get his parents to sign it aswell.

So my guess would be that if this trip your going on is a trip with your college then they require your parents signature as sort of a show of good manners, rather than a requirement. I would imagine parents would be pretty annoyed if some kid went on a trip with the college for a week without informing them and it would be the college that would take the stick for it.

I think it's for insaurance reasons. The insaurance covers both under and over 18s but each needs to have the same paper work?
I know the 18yearolds at my school are allowed to sign for themselves.

i asked a teacher this the other day, they said legally you don't need them to sign it, but when the school/college asks them too, its more just a requirement of the school/college, so if you go on the trip and something happens the school/college doesn't get aload of abuse/crap from the parents because they would have gave permission.

At my College if you are 18 or over you don't need parents consent or stuff like that.

It's 18. Maybe it only applys for people under that age as it's put as standard on a form.
