Wing problems blamed for crash

Accident investigators in Spain think they've worked out why a plane crashed at Madrid airport in August.

One hundred and fifty-four people died when the plane veered off the runway and crashed, as it tried to take off for the Canary Islands.

Investigators think the crash happened because the plane's wing flaps were in the wrong position.

And a warning system which should have let the pilots know about the problem failed, investigators said in a report.

They studied flight

information records, and found no evidence of
engine problems before the incident.

And the report stressed that the two pilots did carry out checks before take-off.

The crash was Spain's worst in 25 years, and it's important to remember that incidents like this are very rare.

I took off from Barajas a few days after that happened aswell, there was just bits of plane scattered everywhere and burn marks in the grass. Really wasn't a pretty sight.
