Download VLC player and play it in that http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Download a codec pack such as CCCP then enjoy your movie (you won't, the strangers is a total pile )

Basically the system information file is a nfo which contains data from the distributor, you can open that with notepad. The .srt as you guessed by the [sub] in it, is the subtitled. You can either have the subtitled hard coded which is on the video or soft coded which is like a .srt file. I use k-lite codec pack and to enable subtitled you right click on the windows media player classic and go down to subtitles and load them or you can go to the file drop down, select load subtitles. As for the two other images they're the DVD covers, go figure. As everyone else stated it's likely you don't have the right codec to play the video - so you need to get software to play it. VLC and K-Lite are two packages in which contain multiple codecs for your convience.

If you rename the subtitle file to the same as the video, it will automatically load it for you with K-lite.
